I got my wish after the first one…I guess. I wanted more Don Knotts, so this follow-up puts Don and Tim Conway center to the plot. I don't really find Conway that funny, but then nothing is very chuckle-inducing in this second — and final — Apple Dumpling Gang outing. Nobody's best work.
Another breezy, easy Disney family western. There isn't anything to dislike, but you have to be in a mood to enjoy it. Knotts and Conway do a little cross-dressing, but it was funnier when Knotts did it the first time in THE SHAKIEST GUN IN THE WEST.
Familiar stuff here that relies on past good will. Not a top-tier Don Knotts outing to be sure.

The Apple Dumpling Gang Rides Again....though...most of the cast from the first movie are only briefly mentioned in this one. That leaves Tim Conway and Don Knotts to carry the load. They go from one physical comedy situation to another. The gags have not aged well. As a kid, I thought Conway was a comedy genius. Now...he barely gets me to crack a smile. Final thought: Fond memories as a kid are replaced by an adult whose taste in comedy has changed.

Quickie Review (The Disney Binge-a-Thon Vol. 2 - Part 4)
With just one movie left in part 4 of The Disney Binge-a-Thon Vol. 2, we rejoin the comedic duo of Tim Conway & Don Knotts as they reprise their roles of former outlaws Amos Tucker & Theodore Ogelvie in the sequel to Disney's sleeper hit The Apple Dumpling Gang! Amos (Conway) & Theodore (Knotts) are looking to go legit after years of being bumbling outlaws but instead being bumbling law-abiding citizens and just when things were about to go their way, a pair of bank robbers (Cliff Osmond, Ted Gehring) cheat the duo out of money that was being kept for them at the local bank in the "boom town" of Junction City… -
The plot is a bit bloated. I wish the producers would've had more faith in the comedic abilities of their stars, rather than watering down there roles with a handful of other characters.
Conway & Knotts do good but don't achieve the same comedic heights of the original. -
i've never seen the original the apple dumpling gang. so, i'm over at someone's house and they say that they're going to put the apple dumpling gang on. i assume they mean the first one, because why would they put on a random SEQUEL? about halfway through, i realized that a sequel existed and it was this, which finally made sense as this cast lines up with who i saw on screen. i have no idea if i missed out on anything by watching this one first.
ANYWAY, i actually liked this a lot. it was a lot funnier than i expected. the humor aged mostly well. don knotts and tim conway are just excellent. i also loved millie gaskill…

I think I liked this better than the original. I was disappointed with the lack of screen time for Tim Conway and Don Knotts in that film, but here they were the central characters! Their outlandish adventures are enjoyably whacky with a connecting role for their mule Clarise.
Tim Matheson is a major new side character and is good as always. He's given a romantic side plot, which is a little odd since the object of his affections is so caustic and unlikable. Her only positive quality seems to be physical attractiveness until the very end of the film.

The charm of the original was Knotts and Conway coupled with the kids. The sequel jettisons the kids so loses some of that charm. I like Matheson as an actor so he's fine, even with the dodgy moustache. Jack Elam and Kenneth Mars are sufficiently over the top.
Not bad but I was easily distracted throughout . -
Can't wait for the end of this trilogy.

This was more of what I was expecting from the first Apple Dumpling Gang. It focuses more on Knotts/Conway. We also get appearances by Tim Matheson, Harry Morgan, Jack Elam.
I liked this one better than the first. Amos and Theodore bumbling their way through the West sowing chaos wherever they go. And the side plot featuring Tim Matheson was certainly as cliche as the orphan plot in the first, but it's less front and center.

A little wackier than the first but still not wacky enough and too many periphery characters. Just stick with the two wacky dudes!!!!

A Disney sequel that got a review out of me because well, I think it has a slight edge over its original. As in it's funnier.
The original movie was a nice little movie with heart, though its humor and Tim Conway and Don Knotts duo were secondary. What it lacks in heart here, it gains in humor. Enough to make me laugh a couple of times. Mostly because of the shenanigans from Conway and Knots who are funny and likeable. Especially at the expense of a marshal, played by future King Triton Kenneth Mars. He gets hit by cake, flown across the room, shot at, gets put in a neck brace which all eventually ruins his career. All because…
